The Shelby County School District needed to create a new teacher evaluation system from scratch, but they quickly realized a paper-based system wouldn’t cut it. They wanted better collaboration between teachers and administrators, and they needed to streamline processes to save time for administrators, principals, and HR staff.
Dr. Resia Brooks, Human Resources Supervisor at Shelby County School District, says a colleague told her about PowerSchool Unified Talent Perform™. “It sounded like exactly what we needed to digitize our evaluations and improve collaboration,” says Brooks.
With Perform, administrators provide clear feedback, time-stamping key moments and phrases during the teacher’s lesson to discuss later. Teachers submit their own self-reflection immediately after being observed. Brooks says this creates the perfect foundation for meaningful and collaborative discussions in post-observation conferences.
Administrators enjoy the faster, easier digital process. Principals no longer take boxes of files home for review because they can access evaluations from anywhere, and they never have to scan or copy documents for filing. Brooks says, “Our principals love that Perform saves them time and doesn’t result in a huge stack of paperwork.” She also says that Perform helps her district plan professional learning that aligns with what teachers want and need. “We now have two years of good, solid data. Our next step is to look at trends and plan our future PD according to that.”
